I have an 8 month old, which means I have a ton of empty baby food jars. You can only make so many sand art projects before you feel like you are constantly at VBS, so I needed something else to do with them. After being inspired by this post at Training Happy Hearts, I decided to turn my trash into a school toy!
I took 10 jars, and painted 5 blue and 5 green. I chose these colors to match the colors of the lids. I may paint 2 more so that each group is even.
I filled each set with:
-bouncy balls
-glass beads
-rice from our sensory bin
-nothing
-and a marker cap
I found this video that gives an excellent example of how to present the sound cylinders.
The kids really loved working with the jars. I did, however, realize I made one major oops. I used washable paint, because that's what I had on hand. Well, Mini Cooper tried to put one jar in her mouth. Yeah, dont use washable paints. But, do try making these jars. God Bless!

Great idea! I saved tons of those little baby jars and I'm always looking for good uses for them. Hubby keeps telling me to throw them out but then I find another great idea like this for them. Thanks for sharing.

I dont think the kids know whats inside. I personally really like the bouncy ball. It makes a really unique sound!
Very nice. I wish I still had baby food jars. I started out by using individual serving baby juice bottles. Then I hijacked them for our smell bottle activity. I would never have thought to paint jars like this. We used the plastic eggs at Easter time, but I put matching sounds into matching colors, so they knew how they matched. I need to try this. Thank you for the different ideas for objects to put inside. I had run out of ideas.
