Unexpected Field Trip

On Tuesday afternoon, I found out that due to the high waters on the Mississippi river, there was a sight to see close to my house!  No, it wasn't the flooding (though that it IS a sight to see!), it was a pair of boats!  Replicas of the Nina and Pinta!  They weren't open for business, since they were supposed to be out sailing, but you COULD go and get really close to them and take a nice long (FREE) look at them!!

It was a lovely, 65 degree, sunny afternoon and we didn't have anything we HAD to be doing.  So, we packed up and headed out!  It was only about 15 minutes away!  And here's what our impromptu field trip looked like:

Certainly a fantastic way to start out our summer field trip season!!  It was really neat.  We can't wait to figure out how to go see them when we could get on them, but we will have to wait for that.  Needless to say, we will be checking out some books on Christopher Columbus this week!

Have you taken any cool field trips this summer?  Do you have any lined up?  I'd love to hear about them!

Happy Sailing :) & God Bless,
Lisa
