Adam and Eve Story Telling Box

I am so excited to share our story box with you! A little background before I start. Thanks to What DID We do all Day, I learned of a great Montessori Sunday School Program called Godly Play. Well, we dont have a program around here, and I cant afford to buy their materials, but I loved the idea of making little boxes containing the things needed for children to recreate Bible stories. I also saw a few great story box ideas on Early Learning at Home and I was hooked. So, first up was our Adam and Eve box.

I presented this story in two different sessions, first Adam names the animals and Eve is created, and then second the story of the fall. But here is the entire story.

I keep the set in a little Sterilite box, 1.25 from Walmart.

In the beginning, God created the earth, including special place for man to live. {Green felt square 25 cents Hobby Lobby.}

The special place was called the Garden of Eden. It was Paradise! Beautiful flowers {foam stickers, Dollar Tree} and fruit bearing trees {Walmart, I'd like to replace them but that's what I had! The fruit was made by cutting apart a floral berry stick from Hobby Lobby}.

God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to live. {Hobby Lobby wooden people,colored with markers}

God brought all the animals to Adam. Adam gave them each a name! He named them horse, duck, sheep, pig, & cow, to name a few. {I cut these from a book that the kids had torn apart}

As he named the animals, Adam found that each animal had a mate. But there wasnt a mate for Adam! Adam was lonely and sad.

God said it is not good for man to be alone. So, he put Adam to sleep and took out his rib. The kids loved putting Adam to sleep!

And from Adam's rib God created a woman. Her name was Eve. {Please excuse that she is slightly smudged, Mini Cooper tried to eat her}

This is where I ended the first lesson. We repeat the first lesson when I tell the second lesson.

Adam and Eve lived together in the Garden of Eden. They talked with God and had a good life! The fruit trees grew fruit for them to pick and eat. They could eat the fruit from ANY tree except one. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It was in the middle of the garden and God told them not to eat from it or they would DIE!

One day a serpent came to Eve. He told her that God was lying, and that she would not die if she ate the fruit. Eve looked at the fruit and thought it looked very good, so she decided to eat it! Adam ate it too!! {Snake is from a Toob of reptiles-sorry, our snake never has legs}

All of a sudden, Adam and Eve realized they didnt have any clothes on!! So, they quickly made clothes out of leaves that they could find. {or in our case a couple of leaf buttons tied on with pipe cleaners}

Backside view of their fashions.

Now, Adam and Eve did not immediately die, so you may think that the serpent was right and God was wrong, but He was not. Adam and Eve would have lived forever if they hadnt eaten the forbidden fruit. But since they ate the fruit, God made them leave the Garden of Eden. Out in the world they would have to work for the food, and eventually die.

The serpent was punished, too. God took away his legs and made him slink along the ground-making him easier to get stepped on!

God put a gate around the Garden of Eden and placed an angel in front. Mustang has informed me that he is missing his fire sword-she is right!

An overhead view.

And a few up close views of our angel. He is also from Hobby Lobby and his halo is a pipe cleaner.

So that's the box! I had SO MUCH FUN Putting this together. I know my kids really enjoy it, too. They help me tell the story an I thing the props really help it sink in. I hope you love it, too!

Our Country School: Creation Wrap Up

Well the Lord created the heavens and the earth in just 7 days, but it has taken us months to finish our Creation unit. But, am happy to say we had our last Creation lesson this last week and are ready to move on to Genesis chapter 2 lol!!

Our guide for our Bible lessons this quarter is "The Beginner's Bible" which I highly recommend. We read 'The Beginning' this week. Our memory verse was Genesis 1:1-which Mustang is getting very good at. Our song for the week was Happy All the Time {no paticular reason I just love it}.

After we read the story in our Bible, I pulled out our new Creation Nesting Globes to retell the story. The kids really liked these! They are very hard to put back together, but they were fun and held everyone's attention.

To wrap up our Creation studies, we made our first page in our activity Bible. I got this idea from EarlyLearningAtHome.com {I will warn you now that you will likely spend HOURS exploring her site, its awesome}. I typed our memory verse on a piece of card stock and using a brad, we attached the earths that we made in our prior lessons to the page. I really love how this turned out and I cant wait to make the up coming pages in our 'Bible.'

This is Mustang's page. Didnt she do a great job? If you are wondering about the graphics, I just Googled until I found things I liked for our project. And that's it! Next lesson we will be moving on to Adam naming the animals and the creation of Eve.

Raising Rock Stars: Creation Day 6, part 2

"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. " Genesis 1:26-27 NIV

We are on our 2nd part on the day 6 of Creation. The creation of man. First of all, I have a complaint. As I looked for good graphics to use with our crafts and learning, I found that the vast majority of online Creation printables look like Adam and Eve are on drugs. Am I the only one to notice this? The second issue I have is that they all show Adam and Eve created on day 6. I realize that the verse mentions females to point out that we are all created in God's image, but if you read further you realize that Eve wasnt around on day 6. I only wish I was good at creating graphics, then I could make my own, but for now I am at the mercy of the generous people who have been willing to share their printables. Who, buy the way, I am VERY GRATEFUL. But, if anyone knows of a good Adam only, not on drugs, free printables let me know!

After reading in our Bible story book, we read All About Me from DK books. We received this book from our former doctor's office! Every few visits, our doctor used to give the kids free books. We miss them!!

The discussion of our body parts lead to an impromptu game of Hokey Pokey, which all three kids LOVED.

I made strips with each of their names on it and used milk caps to create puzzles. I got this idea from Carissa at 1+1+1=1, though she uses water bottle caps. We never drink water, so I didnt have any caps and decided to make my own. Well, milk caps are not the best idea, they are so BIG. They dont seem that big, but when you line them all up they certainly are. Oh well. This was Charger's first time learning to spell his name, and he really really loved it.

We finished up by coloring some pages for our lapbooks that I got from Lapbook Lessons. They have so many great printables!

And that's a wrap. For more Raising Rock Stars ideas, check out the weekly linky at 1+1+1=1. God Bless!!

Raising Rock Stars: Creation Day 6

As you may notice, we missed day 5. Really, we didnt, but the pictures are on my fried laptop. Its okay, though. I didnt do very much for day 5. So, on to day 6.

"And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. " Genesis 1:24 & 25 NIV

Once again, we worked on our Day of Creation Earth with clip art from Bible Kids Fun Zone.

Then we played a sorting game. I printed off pictures of birds, fish, and land animals from clip art I found here and here. I took the 5 and 6 from our numbers puzzle. Using our new pocket chart we matched up the animals with which day they were created. We did this as a group, but I also wrote a 5 or 6 on the back for self checking.

We used our Melissa and Doug sound puzzle to discuss the different sounds that animals make.

Then we discussed how God made the animals male and female so that they could have babies. We brought out our Noah's Ark animals and observed the males and females and their differences.

The animal shadow matching also made another appearance. Charger did very well with this! And, the new pocket chart came in handy once again. If you would like a chance to win your own pocket chart, make sure you enter my CSNstores giveaway {ends May 17th, 2010}.

Raising Rock Stars: Creation Day 4

"And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day." Genesis 1:14-19 NIV

We are on day 4 of Creation, the day the Lord created the sun, moon, and stars. Charger has a mini obsession with the moon, so I decided to focus our extention activities on the moon.

It was a beautiful day, so we took advantage of the sunshine and went outside. This seemed to mess with the pictures. Sorry they are so dark :(.

We worked on our day 4 earth for our Creation lapbook.

We read The Moon by Lydia Carlin {part of Scholastic's Solar System Readers pack}.

And we pulled out this cool Solar System Information Pack that my mom and sister picked up for us last Summer. It has a cool poster and a book and STICKERS! Thank you guys!!

Then we made a moon surface....or at least that's what it was supposed to be.

Instructions were to glue beans and macaroni to a paper plate. The kids loved this part! And, since we were outside, I did too ;). Charger filled every inch that he could, taking great pride in each and every bean. "I did it, I did it." He would exclaim {and of course want me to acknowledge and praise him for all 83 beans}. Mustang, on the other hand, kept wanting to go inside to wash her hands because she didnt like the glue on her fingers.

When the beans and macaroni were all glued down and dry, we wrapped the plate in alluminum foil, and pushed it down over the beans and mac to create craters. To be fair, the plates did look like the surface of the moon {at least the pictures I have seen, havent been there}.

The directions were to wait until the glue was dry. But, well, its hard to wait for glue to dry when you are two, four, or even thirty. It didnt take long before the beans and macaroni started to come off of the plate. Once one piece came off, it all did, and soon we had home made marraccas! They were fun while they lasted, but found the trash soon afterwards...dont tell the kids k?

I think we all had a great time with this lesson. I am certainly enjoying this Creation series. I hope you enjoy reading about it! God Bless!!

Raising Rock Stars: Creation Day 3

On day three of Creation, God created flowers, plants and trees. We had a lot of fun with this one.

I am a little behind in posting our Raising Rock stars lessons, which you will probably notice since Charger's hair is MUCH longer. I forgot just how badly he needed his hair cut before we finally cut it!

First we read the Creation story again in our 5-minute Bible Story book.

Then we worked on our day 3 earth for our lapbook. I got the graphics from Bible Kids Fun Zone.

We matched calendar flowers-a great idea I got from Chasing Cheerios. I took an old calendar and cut out the little display pictures from the back of the calendar and then Charger had to match them with the full size pictures from each month. See the hair? Wow it was long!

Then we made the CUTEST project we have done to date-no lie. I got the idea from Elise at Inspiration Surrounds Creativity Abounds who has some of THE most creative ideas ever. I highly recommend her blog!

We took a pom pom, pipe cleaner, and felt. I cut circles and petals out of different colors of felt. Charger and Mustang would first pick a pom pom and pipe cleaners and I would wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around the pom pom and then they would thread a circle and petal on the pipe cleaner to make a flower.

LOVE THEM! We gave them to grandmas and aunts for Easter. They seemed to enjoy them as well.

Raising Rock Stars: The Story of Easter

Each week, I get the privilege of teaching my children a story from the Bible. This week, I got to teach them the greatest story ever told! This is the first year that Mustang really understood what I was saying. She listened and reacted and asked questions. It was really a blessing to share the story of Jesus with her.

We read 'I Know Why We Have Easter.' I found it a few weeks ago for 10 cents at the thrift. It was a perfect telling of the Easter story for my kids. It discussed the Crucifixion, but very lightly. Mustang is very sensitive about death and I was pleased with the way the book presented Christ's death.

Last week at Hobby Lobby I found this wooden set for 2.00. I had to color it myself, but that was worth it for the price. We used the set to retell the story of Christ's death and resurrection. We had Jesus, a Centurion, Mary Magdalene, Angels, and the man ended up being Joseph of Arametha for our story, though I am sure he will play other parts in the future :). Charger saw the tomb right away and kept yelling 'Cave.' I have no idea where he learned what a cave looked like, but I was pleased.

After our story, we played with a few extension games. We used this cool magnet page from Confessions of a Homeschooler. Charger loved matching the pom poms to the circles. Mustang loved making her own designs on the pizza pan.

I printed 2 sets of these crosses, also from Confessions of a Homeschooler. They were supposed to be puzzles, but Charger used them to match colors and Mustang and I played a memory game.

We also tried to put together a cross of Popsicle sticks, an idea I got from Mama to 3 Blessings. We started on the floor and Mini Cooper immediately charged over and tried to 'help.' So, the cross was moved to the table. Charger helped me, but Mustang used the sticks to make letters.
